As a Health Information Network Provider (HINP), Health Shared Services Ontario (HSSOntario) manages patient information for the purposes of operating and maintaining information technology and systems. HSSOntario is not a Health Information Custodian.
HSSOntario acts as a HINP for a number of health care organizations that use our digital health applications and network services. Examples of such organizations include Community Care Access Centres, hospitals, long-term care homes, community support service agencies, primary care and Emergency Medical Services. HSSOntario manages these health care organizations' information, which is processed on our networks. Access to information is for the purpose of operating and maintaining the technologies and systems that HSSOntario provides.
